Please block User:Gzen92Bot indefinetly (unapproved task)

[edit]

Gzen92Bot (talk · contributions · Statistics · Recent activity · block log · User rights log · uploads · Global account information)

Hi, please block User:Gzen92Bot. Due to unapproved task, especially per the following rationale:

  • User User:Gzen92 has been warned repeatedly (e.g. here [1]) and the bot has already been blocked multiple times for unapproved use and the user does know that a bot request is required prior to taking up a new task
  • The currently performed edits seem to be in scope of Commons:Bots/Requests/Gzen92Bot-3, which was actually not approved
  • Also, currently the bot is performing mass edits without edit summaries which in itself is troublesome
  • Also, whereas I do not want to discuss the specific task here, the bot performs mass category moves on user-generated new category-trees (e.g. here [2]), such edits should be discussed and not silently enfored under a bot flag

Thus requesting an indefinetly block of the bot. The user should file a bot request to discuss and address the above issues. --Schlurcher (talk) 21:02, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Schlurcher: Hi, I think you should inform the user. I did it for you this time. Yann (talk) 22:07, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hello, the bot is being monitored, let me explain.
I categorize files when there are more than 100 files in a daily category, mostly manually (see my edits). If `cat-a-lot` can't be used ("location=France") or if I'm already doing a `cat-a-lot` with my account, to save time, then I use the bot (without editing summaries, indeed). No problem, I'll stop using the bot. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Gzen92 (talk) 07:17, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Gzen92, per my inerpretation the bot policy on commons is actually quite liberal when it comes to fully monitored (tool-assisted) edits. However, they should be performed with a bot flag only when you have a pre-discussion (approval) on this. The same policy would allow to use you bot script on your main account (which I think could be combined with your cat-a-lot changes). My only ask is to please use sensible edit summaries (which was the main part that could your edits on my watchlist) and please do not use a bot-flagged account for such non-approved edits. --Schlurcher (talk) 08:04, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your comments, I understand. Gzen92 (talk) 08:29, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

User is making a joke or fun by adding Category:Deceased Commons users to User:Bob Burkhardt and User:Library Guy then remove it in a few minutes. I don't think such kinds of action is funny and falsely claimed someone is dead is a serious issue and must not be tolerated. ~2026-73864-3 (talk) 09:09, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-73864-3,
I have just added this to the Admin board here: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Regarding confirmation and recognition of an allegedly deceased contributor.
You must have missed the history pages where I wrote "will check with administrators" in both of my edit summaries here and here after I reverted my own edits, because I thought it would better to ask for advice from an Admin. Thank you @Achim55 for confirmation. Please, comment at the link above, if you can. Thank you and best regards, -- Ooligan (talk) 09:51, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Blocking inactive accounts is not a great use of admin time. The point of blocks is to stop damaging behavior, and if an account is abandoned, it's no longer doing anything damaging. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 00:39, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
If they spam again, it will be a waste of patroller time. You have a policy based reason to block them, which literally takes under a minute, but that's a problem for you. Makes sense. Sorry for wasting your time. Geoffroi 00:51, 5 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

This user has mass-uploaded 46 spam/out of scope website screenshots. I fucked up the batch task, so they're all in Category:Other speedy deletions with DR tags (I nominated the DR page for speedy deletion and removed it from the daily DR page). Sorry for the trouble. Edit war: Official_Presidential_Portrait_of_President_Donald_J._Trump_(2025).jpg

[edit]

The file File:Official Presidential Portrait of President Donald J. Trump (2025).jpg is currently undergoing an edit war reverting between a couple versions:

  • 1,638 × 2,048 JPG that is apparently based on a PNG image released by the White House
  • 3,277 × 4,096 version that is an upscaled and sharpened version of the above

Note: the PNG version from the White House website is here: File:President-Donald-Trump-Official-Presidential-Portrait.png

ThomasAnderson (talk) 12:54, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Standard procedure (as best as I can tell) and what I've done before in this case is revert to the last stable version (which there never had been, so in this case, the original upload), then upload lock the file indefinitely until a consensus can be reached or the other file is uploaded under another name, at which point it becomes the local projects' choice of which one to use. I've done that here. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 07:06, 7 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
